You're talking to an AI

Every character on Historacle is an AI recreation of a historical figure, not a real person and not the actual historical figure. The characters are generated by large language models drawing on historical sources, and they speak in the first person to make learning more engaging. They are not alive, they are not aware, and they cannot form a relationship with you.

Because the responses are generated, they can be wrong, incomplete, or out of character. Treat what a character says as a starting point for learning, not as a verified fact or as advice. Check anything important against primary sources. The characters are not a substitute for a doctor, lawyer, therapist, or other qualified professional.

If you're going through a hard time

Historacle is built for education, not for crisis support. If a conversation suggests that someone may be thinking about harming themselves, the product stops the character and shows crisis resources instead. When that happens, the historical persona pauses on purpose. It is not a judgment, and it is not the character refusing to talk to you. It is there so you can reach real help quickly.

How we keep conversations appropriate

Characters can be set to an age-appropriate rating, and schools and organizations can apply a stricter setting for everyone in their account. When a rating is in effect, we check messages for content that isn't suitable and steer the conversation back on topic. Some material — such as anything sexual involving minors — is blocked regardless of the setting.
